Group coaching workshop for The Artist’s Way
Support for completing the 12 weeks of Julia Cameron’s classic creativity book!
Wouldn’t you love to be more creative?
I’ve had writer’s block ever since my bravest essay got decimated in my critique group…
I start pieces but never finish them.
I make things but then hide them in a drawer. I can’t bring myself to show them to others. What if I’m terrible?
I give so much of my energy and myself as a caregiver that when I sit down to create, there’s nothing left…
Don’t go it alone!
The Artist’s Way is famous for helping people in all stages of the process free their creativity and get busy making art:
- Rediscover the joy in just making things that you had as a child
- Give yourself permission to make space for fun
- Tap into your passion and delight
Hi, I'm Joy (she/her)
Book editor, writer, and creativity coach
Succeeding as an artist is as much about developing emotional resilience as perfecting our skill. As a creativity coach, I help artists work through struggles that are common to all creatives, like writer’s block, the inner critic, perfectionism, resistance, and imposter syndrome. And Julia Cameron’s text is one of the most powerful tools I’ve encountered for working through these blocks. Come work through this book with me and a community of artists like you!

“My experience with the group was a success on so many levels. For anyone considering journeying through this book with a group, I highly recommend doing so. The book is meant to be an experience, not just a “read,” and the group was a safe place to discuss, laugh, cry, procrastinate … To have someone “meet you where you are” was deepening, strengthening and very rewarding.
I jumped at joining Joy’s group because of her enthusiasm and friendliness. As the group moved forward, I found her willing to be vulnerable right along with the rest of us. Her compassion in her responses to others’ posts about struggles and triumphs was a gift. And her prior experience with the book—its structure and all the challenges she knew it would be presenting to us—was the key to my truly wonderful growth experience.
Joy kept us on pace, and I know this supported my successful journey (thank you!) week to week through the often-challenging chapters to their conclusion. I truly appreciate Joy for both her friendly guidance and her time to maintain organization of the group. Files and references were always easy to find and follow, and her weekly encouragement invaluable to discussions.
I’ve benefited in so many ways by jumping, on what seemed like a crazy whim one day, into this group experience—completely out of my comfort zone. I can’t think of a better way to go through this amazing book!”

Why pay to join a group? Can’t I just read The Artist’s Way?
This text is famous for being life-altering, but it’s also well known for being pretty challenging to get through. Here are some common themes from a survey of female writers:
This book’s been on my shelf for 10 years. I keep meaning to get to it…
I’ve tried reading it at least three times but then never finished. I really want to get through it someday!
I started to do it on my own, but had a hard time holding myself accountable.
I joined a free group but then everyone dropped out and eventually I gave up, too.
The risks of going into The Artist’s Way without support?
Overwhelm
Cultivating new daily habits and doing deep inner work for 3 months on your own is not easy! The beginning and the middle of the course can feel especially daunting.
Creativity coaching is especially well suited for helping artists stick to a daily practice. Together, we’ll normalize struggle and resistance and find the path through the material that is right for you in your artistic journey right now.
Burnout
Working on anything for 3 months day in and day out takes commitment. And the material in The Artist’s Way can be intense. It can be easy to lose sight of the excitement that drew us to the project in the first place.
Working with a coach can help you reconnect with your passion for your creativity and find a deep sense of meaning in the process of this artistic healing journey.
Isolation
In this group, you are not alone! Checking in with peers, whether that’s celebrating the highs together or commiserating on the lows, will help you stay the course.
The community is a source of support, of accountability, and of fresh perspective on the roadblocks that are keeping us from meeting our artistic goals. This is a group of artists who are in the thick of it, just like you, who truly get it.
Perfectionism
The Artist’s Way has more ideas and activities in its pages than one creative could possibly integrate in just 12 weeks. There is truly something there for everyone! And yet many people give up on the book because they aren’t able to do it “perfectly”–that is, to accomplish every single task proposed.
Don’t let the demon of perfectionism get the last word! There is no way to do this wrong. Participation in the group will keep you moving forward on what is the perfect path for you in this moment in time, which may take many forms.
